This piece is a contribution to the STSC Symposium, a monthly set-theme collaboration between STSC writers. The topic for this upcoming issue is BEACH. Thanks to James N. and Ivan and Trilety for their feedback and comments on the first draft.
"Jonas' boss was adamant about going with uranium, and Jonas had to convince him that anything reminiscent of the nuclear age would only attract atompunk weirdos."
Brilliant brush-stroke to the story, lands the world and the mindset they're working in.
I enjoyed the premise of the story and the world it takes place in and the possibilities it opens up. It suggests some interesting questions. The ending felt unsatisfying but left me thinking about the parallel between seagulls hunting endlessly for fish and them hunting endlessly for amber insects, sort of an endless cycle that leads nowhere new after success?
I loved it, it went from expectations of beautiful prose (which it was all the way through) and then took a sharp turn with xenogeneticist and a new world within just a few words, and then leaves you with questions, hooked into its mysteries. That was awesome.

The mindset is inspired by my own experience in the public sector. Thanks for reading mate!
Giving feedback was fun because it meant an even earlier chance to read your story!
